How do you get National Numismatic certification?

National Numismatic Certification, or NNC, is a coin grading system offered by a private company. To submit coins to NNC for appraisal, you need suitable packaging material, a downloadable submission form and the service fee.
- Package the coins
Package each coin you want appraised separately in a 2-inch-by-2-inch coin flip. These flips can be obtained from coin supply stores. On the outside of the flip, mark the date and mint mark from the coin and the submission form number for your appraisal, which NNC sends you via email.
- Complete the submission form
Fill out the submission form, which can be either obtained directly from NNC or downloaded and printed from the website, with your name, address, phone number, email address and a list of coins you are sending. With your first application NNC assigns you a customer number that you must use with all transactions.
- Calculate and pay the fee
The fee for National Numismatic Certification of each coin includes the appraisal fee, the coin return postage fee and an insurance fee. Add up these fees, and multiply them by the number of coins you are sending. You can pay by credit card, check or money order.
- Send the package
NNC recommends that you send the package of coins by registered mail via USPS. They do not recommend using Fed-Ex or UPS.
