Is it necessary to italicize article titles?

Typically when writing an article title, it should be italicized. Names of magazines and books should also be placed in italics.

In general, the titles of sacred works, such as the Bible or the Koran, are not italicized. The titles of the books or verses follow this same rule. The names of authors, the date and where the work was published should not be italicized. Some formats require that the titles be put into quotation marks. Most often, the titles of short works are put inside the quotation marks. Musical pieces, names of movies and names of pamphlets are also italicized.
