Do you need a converter box for an antenna if you have an HDTV?
By Forinfos - 09/06/2025 - 0 comments
A converter box is not needed to watch programming from an antenna if the HDTV has a built-in digital tuner. All TVs manufactured after March 2008 are required to have a digital tuner.
The switch from analog to digital television signals is known as the Digital Television Transition. Congress enacted the Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act in 2005. Since June 13, 2009, all full-power television stations broadcast a digital signal. The original deadline to cease all analog broadcasts was Feb. 17, 2009.
Digital signals offer better picture and sound quality and the ability to broadcast multiple channels. Digital signals have the capability to broadcast high definition and surround sound.
