Do you need an expert to replace storm windows?

A homeowner doesn't need an expert to replace her storm windows. It is relatively easy to remove the old storm windows and install new ones.

To remove old storm windows, loosen the screws, and simply pull the storm window out of the frame. Make sure to remove old caulking with a scraper. Then, apply caulking around the frame.

Exterior storm windows are screwed to the frame through a flange. The place where the flange connects with the window frame needs to be caulked, though the homeowner should be careful not to caulk up the weep holes. Interior storm windows attach to the frame through magnets, tracks or other fasteners. They can even connect with expandable rubber or foam.
