While some farm land lease agreements may not be complicated, in most cases they require written agreements prepared by lawyers, explains the Land Stewardship Project. Some jurisdictions require written leases for periods of one year or longer. Some services provide attorney-prepared templates to use for farmland leases.

Rocket Lawyer offers a land lease template that covers the landlord and tenant obligations when leasing farmland either for raising livestock or growing crops. Terms covered in a farmland lease agreement include maintenance of the soil, liability in case of crop disease and protection of the landlord from any of the tenant's financial obligations, states Rocket Lawyer.
