Do you need a phone service to use a Motorola cell phone?

You must have a phone service and a valid SIM card to use a Motorola cell phone to make phone calls and/or send text messages. However, it is possible to use certain features on a Motorola phone without paying for cell phone service or without having a SIM card.

All the native offline applications included with the phone such as the alarm clock and notepad can be used without phone service. You can also connect to and browse the Internet if you have access to a Wi-Fi network. However, if you want to use your Motorola cell phone to make phone calls and/or send text messages, you must purchase a cell phone service plan and a valid SIM card from a company such as Sprint, Rogers, T-Mobile or AT&T.
