Patients with a family history of endometrial or colorectal cancer and all newly diagnosed endometrial and colorectal cancer patients require testing for Lynch syndrome, according to the UCSF Medical Center. Patients diagnosed with multiple Lynch syndrome-related cancers should also be tested.

Lynch syndrome is an inherited genetic condition that increases a person's risk of developing colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, and cancers of the small intestine, stomach, liver, upper urinary tract and brain, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Approximately 3 percent of all cases of colorectal cancer are caused by Lynch Syndrome, reports the Mayo Clinic.
