Is nickel magnetic?

By Forinfos - 11/04/2026 - 0 comments

Nickel is a ferromagnetic element. Nickel, iron, cobalt and gadolinium are the only elements that are magnetic around room temperature. A ferromagnetic metal can be attracted to magnets and can be magnetized itself.

Nickel is a silvery-white metal that can be highly polished. The magnetism of the element is caused by long-range ordering at the atomic level. The unpaired electrons in nickel spin to line up parallel with one another in the atom's domain. These magnetic domains line up with one another when exposed to an external magnetic field. This quality makes nickel very useful in the creation of electromagnets.
