What is a non-ionic detergent?

Non-ionic detergents are detergents that don't include any ionic group, carry any charge or react with hard water ions. These detergents also are called neutral detergents because they are made of equal strengths of acid and alkali, resulting in a pH value of 7.

Dishwashing liquid is an example of a non-ionic detergent. It can be used for cleaning all types of surfaces and is particularly effective for removing grease and oil. Aside from not reacting with hard water ions, this type of detergent doesn't produce much foam, so it is easier to rinse. A disadvantage of non-ionic detergent is that it is more expensive than other types.
