Detergent can help in cleaning a pot that has been burned. Add dishwashing detergent and boiling water to the pot to remove burnt-on food and burn marks.
Leave the mixture of hot water and dishwashing detergent to soak in the pan for an hour or more, or even overnight. Then wash the pot with a good quality dish detergent according to the directions on the label. To remove remaining stains, apply a thick paste of baking soda and cold water, and let sit for several hours, then wipe off. Never use steel wool and wire scourers to clean stainless steel pots.
