What are nonsurgical bunion removal options?

While bunions can be treated at home, they cannot be removed without surgery, according to WebMD and Johns Hopkins Medicine. Most bunions do not require surgery unless other treatment options have failed and the bunion is causing pain.
Nonsurgical treatments for bunions include using bunion pads, custom orthotics or arch supports to distribute weight more easily, reports WebMD. This helps take pressure off the big toe. Medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen may help relieve pain associated with a bunion. Another option is to use moleskin or felt patches around the sore area. This keeps the bunion from being rubbed by shoes.
