What is a normal granulocyte count?

According to About.com, there are two types of granulocytes: ploys and bands, each of which is counted separately to determine the absolute granulocyte count. A normal AGC reading is between 2,500 and 6,000, with lower normal granulocyte counts typical for African-Americans and southeast Asians.

About.com states that granulocytes make up more than half of the entire white blood count of the body. Any granulocyte count under 2,500 indicates a higher possibility of infection afflicting the body. A granulocyte count of less than 1,000 means an increased risk of infection, and any number below 1,000 means the body can become easily infected.
