Dr. Edward R. Laskoski of the Mayo Clinic says that the normal resting heart rate for an adult may be anywhere from 60 to 100 beats per minute. A person's normal resting heart rate can be affected by a variety of factors including air temperature, body position, and their emotions.
In addition to external factors playing a part on resting heart rate, age should also be taken into account. Medical News Today breaks down the resting heart rate for children. Those under a year old typically have a heart rate of between 80 and 160 beats per minute. These numbers decrease until age ten, at which point the resting rate should be in the average range of 60 to 100.
