Some laboratory values are different for men and women, while others are not. For example, a normal hemoglobin level in males is 14 to 17 grams per deciliter, while the normal level in females is 12 to 16 grams per deciliter, states the Merck Manual.
Normal levels of homocysteine also are different in men and women. The normal range for women is 0.40 to 1.89 milligrams per liter, while normal levels for men are 0.54 to 2.16 milligrams per liter, the Merck Manual reports. Many other lab values are the same for men and women, including normal levels of white blood cells, triglycerides, cholesterol and most vitamins and minerals.
