At room temperature aluminum is found in a solid phase. Aluminum is a metallic element with an atomic number of 13, an atomic weight of 26.98 atomic mass units and an atomic symbol of Al.
Aluminum is found in period three and group 13 on the periodic table. The element is the most abundant metallic element found in the Earth's crust, but it is never found freely in nature. For this reason, all of the aluminum that is used in industry or manufacturing is man-made from other metallic elements. Potassium aluminum sulfate and aluminum oxide are two man-made sources of aluminum.
