What is the normal pulse range?

The normal resting pulse or heart rate for adults is from 60 to 100 beats per minute, notes Mayo Clinic. A lower pulse rate is generally indicative of better cardiovascular fitness and heart function.
Several factors have an influence on the pulse rate, including fitness level, activity level and air temperature, reports Mayo Clinic. Other factors that affect the heart rate include emotions, body size, medications, and whether an individual is standing or lying down. A high pulse rate can indicate an underlying medical condition. Persistently high pulse readings of more than 100 beats or 60 beats per minute or less may signify a problem and should be evaluated by a physician.
