The normal value of a pus cell is 5 to 8 in males and up to 10 per high power field for women. A high power field refers to the visibility of pus on a slide viewed by a microscope at approximately 500X.

The accumulation of pus is a normal response from your immune system to fight off infection. Pus is a combination of dead tissue, bacteria and white blood cells. A routine urine test which is found to have abnormally high levels of pus may be the result of a urinary tract infection, kidney inflammation or Lupus, for example.
