Is oatmeal good or bad for your dog?

Oatmeal is good for dogs because it is a natural source of soluble fiber, which aids the digestive process. Senior dogs that are troubled by occasional constipation benefit significantly from eating the grain. Probiotic supplements are sometimes combined with oatmeal to boost their digestive advantages.
In addition, dogs with wheat allergies are able to eat oatmeal instead. Dogs should be served cooked oatmeal that has no sugar, salt or other additional flavoring.
If a dog's owner wants to make a significant dietary change, such as a regular serving of oatmeal to improve digestion, a veterinarian should be consulted first. This is even more important if the dog is taking medication.
