It is okay to iron felt lightly. The iron should be preheated to its low or wool setting first.

The felt should also be smoothed with hands before ironing. During the ironing process, the iron should be moved lightly from right to left and back; it needs to be continuously in motion to prevent scorching of the fabric's fibers.

The manner in which felt is washed will depend on the specific materials used in construction. Some felt manufacturers include washing instructions, but synthetic and wool felts should be spot treated using little or no moisture as moisture can also cause damage of the fibers to occur.
