"Swing Low Sweet Chariot" may have been written by Wallis Willis. The first known recording was in 1909 by the Fisk Jubilee Singers from Fisk University. "Go Down, Moses" is based on a passage from the book of Exodus. "We Shall Overcome" became famous during the U.S. Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s. The original lyrics were "I shall overcome."
