As of June 2014, the oldest living elephant is Lydia, owned by David Tesch, according to Elephant.se. Born in 1943, Lydia is 71 years old. The second-oldest living elephant, Shirley, owned by Wild Adventures, was born in 1944 and is 70 years old.
Guinness World Records lists Lin Wang as the oldest elephant ever. When he died in February 2003, at the Taipei Zoo in Taiwan, he was 86 years old. Elephant.se notes the elephant with the second longest known lifespan was Gajarani Lakshmikutty, who died in 1997 at the age of 84. On average, elephants live approximately 60 years.
