The minimum age requirement for taking a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course is 10 years of age. The recipient of the certification must complete specialized training and pass a written exam in order to be certified.
Individuals as young as 10 can become certified in CPR. There are numerous occupations that are required by the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to have certification in CPR and sometimes first aid, as well. Even in those occupations that do not require training of this type, it is still highly encouraged since it can be useful in emergency situations.
