In order to be eligible to be president of the United States, a person must be at least 35 years old. The candidate must also have been a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years and be a natural born citizen.
The U.S. Constitution also mandates how old people in other political offices must be. For instance, a senator must be at least 30 years old. A representative must be at least 25 years old. The age requirements are set because it is believed that a middle-aged man displays character and talent that is fully developed, as quoted by Justice Joseph Story.
