An Oni mask tattoo is body art that depicts the Oni, a Japanese folklore character who represents evil and distress. The Oni is said to circle around dead bodies in order to take the souls of the body off to hell quickly.

The Oni has bulging eyes and horns coming from each side of its forehead. An Oni tattoo may also feature the demon with a snarling expression. The Oni character is similar to the Western artistic interpretation of the devil.
