Are online employee pay stubs legal?

Online employee pay stubs are legal, though some states require that employers provide access to printed pay stubs. Online pay stubs still meet this requirement if employees are given access to a printer.
As of 2015, many states have laws stating that employers must provide workers with pay statements, and some states specify that the statement must be printed. Other states do not obligate companies to give pay stubs at all, but employees in these states still have the right to request access.
Businesses that are not in compliance with state laws may face lawsuits due to the Fair Labor Standards Act, or possible federal investigations and fines.
