What is an Opaline gourami?

An Opaline Gourami, or "Marbled Gourami," is a silvery, pale blue variation of the Blue Gourami, featuring dark blue markings. Its peaceful temperament, easy care and compatibility with a variety of tank mates make this member of the Belontiidae family a popular aquarium fish.

Native to Malaysia and the South China Sea, captive fish reach up to six inches in length. A diet including algae-based flake food, brine shrimp, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex provides the ideal nutrition for this omnivore. A tank of at least 20 gallons with a variety of driftwood, live plants and rocks for hiding places is suitable.
