How do you open an MDF file?

To open an MDF file, mount the file on a virtual drive. This allows the file to run as if it were a disc inserted into the computer.

  1. Open a disc-authoring program

    Open a program that allows the creation of virtual drives, such as Alcohol-Soft or Daemon Tools. Take a moment to become familiar with the program interface.

  2. Select the MDF file

    Choose the mount option from the program interface. Browse the files on the computer until you find the one you want to mount.

  3. Open the mounted file

    Look at the list of drives on the computer. There should now be an additional virtual drive on the list. Click on this drive to launch the MDF file.
