How do you open a paint can?

Open a can of paint using the special metal tool that comes with new paint purchases. Avoid using a screwdriver, which can warp the paint can lid and make it difficult to close and reopen.

1. Break the seal on the paint can

   Slide the tool under the lip of the paint can lid. Push down gently on the handle to pry the lid up.

2. Lift off the lid

   Repeat the above step at two to three other spots on the paint can. The lid can now be lifted off easily.

3. Reopen the can

   The same process can be used to reopen a paint can that has been sealed. Repeat it as many times as necessary until the paint can is empty.
