What is an orange ghost ball python?

An orange ghost ball python is a color pattern or morph of the ball python, a common pet snake. Orange ghosts have a reduced amount of pigment in their skin, so their coloration is not as deep or dark as in snakes with the regular amount.

In a snake with the ghost trait, black fades to grey, and lighter browns fade to yellow, orange or green. Ghost coloration appears orange rather than brown (as it is in the wild), which is how it came to be known as "orange ghost." The ghost trait is recessive and was originally bred for in the 1990s by the New England Reptile Distributors.
