The Elastic Clause is also called the Necessary and Proper Cause, the Sweeping Clause, the Coefficient Clause or the Basket Clause. This clause is one of the most powerful clauses in the U.S. Constitution.
The Elastic Clause has its name because it stretches the power of the Congress. This is also because Congress has the power to make all the laws. This provision gives Congress a share of authorities lodged in other departments. Nearly all the powers of the government have expanded by Congress due to the Elastic Clause. However, when government officials take advantage of the clause, it may lead to excessive power within the government.
