Wellington polo club founder and former Houston billionaire John Goodman was sentenced in 2014 to 16 years in prison. He was first convicted of DUI manslaughter in 2012 for the 2010 death of Scott Patrick Wilson. Goodman subsequently pursued an appeal of the conviction.
The West Palm Beach, Florida, judge denied appellate bond for Goodman after the 2014 trial and said that a third jury was likely to reach a guilty verdict as well. Goodman's vehicle collided with one driven by Wilson, a 23-year-old graduate student at the University of Central Florida. Wilson drowned after the crash forced his car into a canal.
