Do all ovens have a broiler?

Broilers are common in residential ovens, but they are not ubiquitous. Gas ovens, in particular, might not have a broiler. Gas ovens sometimes have a separate broiler below the main oven.

On electric ovens, broilers are sometimes placed at the top of the oven. Broilers can cook food in a broiling pan or other cooking vessel, but they can also be used to heat the oven more quickly. Because gas ovens are a bit more complex than their electric counterparts, they might not come with a broiler at all. Some gas ovens position the broiler beneath the oven to allow it to reuse the same combustion area for both the oven and the broiler.
