Antibiotic ointment, such as neosporin, may be used to sooth itchy ears caused by mild skin infections, reports Healthline. Baby oil may be used to soften or soothe dry skin around the ears, while topical hydrocortisone cream can relieve inflammation of the outer ear.
Diluted alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or acetic acid may be dropped into the ear to cure burning or itching associated with swimmer's ear, adds Healthline. Healthline recommends consulting a physician before undergoing any treatments that are applied to the inner ear. Those with damaged ear drums should not put anything in their ears at all unless told to by a medical professional.
