Southwest Gas Corporation is an investor-owned company. Southwest Gas was founded in 1931 and became a publicly owned company in 1956, states Southwest Gas.

As of 2015, Southwest Gas is the largest distributor of natural gas in the states of Nevada and Arizona. The company has made several acquisitions, including the gas system owned by Tucson Gas & Electric Company in Arizona, the natural gas properties of Arizona Public Service Company and those of CP National Corporation in Henderson, according to Southwest Gas. Southwest Gas is the only natural gas utility in southern Nevada and it surpassed the one million customers mark in 1995.
