Pachira aquatica is a common houseplant. It is often referred to as a money tree, as it is supposed to bring good luck and money into the owner's home.
The pachira is a very adaptable house plant; it does well in almost any condition. The plant does not have to be watered very often; however, the soil should not be left completely dry. While pachira does not need an abundance of light, when it is kept in darker areas the leaves grow small. Leaves of the pachira aquatica grow fast and may be trimmed at any time. This plant produces guiana chestnuts that are edible when the seed pod bursts.
