Paint is a heterogeneous mixture. Paint is considered a colloid, which is a heterogeneous mixture where one chemical is dispersed in another.

A heterogeneous mixture is one in which more than one thing is seen throughout the mixture. It is often chunky or lumpy. Heterogeneous mixtures can be colloids or suspensions. A suspension differs from a colloid because one chemical is suspended, or temporarily mixed in another. Examples of heterogeneous mixtures include smoke, milk, mayonnaise, muddy water and marshmallows.

Heterogeneous mixtures are different than homogeneous mixtures because homogeneous mixtures look the same throughout. Examples of homogeneous mixtures include bleach, salt water and air.
