Paint over elastomeric paint by cleaning the wall to be painted, filling in any cracks and painting with 100% acrylic latex house paint. To carry out this task you will need a 3:1 water:bleach solution, acrylic caulk and paint.
- Clean the wall
Clean off the wall to be painted with the bleach solution. Leave it on for 20 minutes, then wipe it down with plain water. Be careful not to get water into any holes or cracks in the paint.
- Check and seal the wall
Make sure the elastomeric surface has no blistering. If it does, remove any blistering and seal it with acrylic caulk. Seal off any other openings in the paint with acrylic caulk.
- Paint over the elastomeric paint
Paint with a high-quality, 100% acrylic latex paint. The higher the quality, the less likely it is to crack. Make sure it is recommended by the manufacturer for applying over the elastomeric paint.
