How do you paint a vinyl door?

In order to paint a vinyl door, the door must first be thoroughly cleaned and prepared with a prime coat of paint, then the desired paint can be applied to the door. Vinyl is easy to paint as long as the necessary steps to prepare the door prior to applying paint are taken.

The steps below demonstrate how to properly prepare and paint a vinyl door.

1. Clean the door

Use a hose to rinse the door of any loose dirt or debris. Use a sponge with dish soap and warm water to scrub the door thoroughly. Use the sponge in a circular motion to remove all the dirt from the pores of the material. Rinse and allow to dry completely.

2. Remove the door

Use a screwdriver to remove the door from the hinges and place in a clean area to be painted.

3. Prepare the door handle

Remove the door handle from the door to avoid it coming into contact with paint. If the door handle is not easily removed, it can be covered with a plastic bag or masking tape.

4. Prime the door

Apply a coat of primer to the door evenly on both sides. Allow the paint to dry completely before continuing.

5. Paint the door

Evenly apply the desired paint to the vinyl door with a paint brush, roller or a paint sprayer. Allow the paint to dry completely before replacing the door handle and replacing the door to its hinges.
