The Painted Desert in Arizona covers 93,500 acres in northern Arizona, encompassing both the Grand Canyon National Park and the Petrified Forest National Park. Significant portions of the Painted Desert lie inside the borders of the Navajo nation.
The park's Visitor Center is located 25 miles east of Holbrook, Ariz., in Navajo County, within the boundaries of the Petrified Forest National Park.
