Who participates in extended spring training?

Baseball players who are not yet ready for a full season on a minor-league team within the major-league team's organization participate in extended spring training. This is an extra period of training time after the normal professional baseball spring training ends, and includes regular workouts, exhibition baseball games and other exercises.
Some players may be asked to stay behind for extended spring training in order to improve their skills or work to overcome limitations posed by injuries. With consistent improvement in performance, it is possible for these players to eventually be added to the roster of a Class A, AA or AAA minor-league team.
