Passwords that can be set in BIOS include passwords to boot, to access the hard drive and to change BIOS settings. Enabling hard drive encryption provides the highest level of protection from data theft.
To enable password protection in BIOS, enter the BIOS configuration during PC startup. Using the arrow keys to navigate and Enter to select, navigate to Security Settings. From this tab, set the Supervisor Password to block anyone else from making changes to BIOS settings; set the User Password to add a pre-Windows password prompt; and set the HDD Password to prevent anyone from viewing your hard drive, even if installed on another machine. Once the User Password is set, enable Password On Boot.
