Pastor Appreciation Day takes place on the second Sunday of October each year. The entire month of October is celebrated as National Clergy Appreciation Month.

Focus on the Family created Clergy Appreciation Month in 1994 as a special time for congregations to honor the commitments and bonds between clergy and their congregants. The organization encourages congregations to focus on using the month of October to pay special tangible tributes to clergy and their family members. Because clergy members often perform thankless tasks, the organization created the appreciation day and month to ensure clergy members' works did not go without recognition.
