Some patterns to make a star costume include a knit girls dress and headband pattern and a unisex shooting star costume. As an alternative to sewing a costume with a pattern, make a star sandwich board out of cardboard.

The knit girls dress pattern uses silver and white yarn and is available in eight different sizes. As of December 2015 it retails for $4.99.

The shooting star pattern uses fleece, metallic overlay fabric and ribbon, fiberfill, and hot glue for assembly. The pattern is available as a free PDF download and comes in child sizes small and medium.

To make a cardboard costume, cut out two large stars, and use cord or ribbon to make them into a sandwich board. Decorate them with paint, glitter, ribbon and foil to make a sparkling star.
