Why was Paula Deen fired?

Paula Deen was fired in 2013 by the Food Network after she admitted to using a racial slur in the past. In June 2013, Paula admitted to using the slur during a legal deposition.

The admission caused plenty of controversy, though the incident happened years before she became famous. After the subject came to light, Deen was also dropped by her publisher, Ballantine Books. The firing caused outrage with her fans, and she decided to reach out to them by putting on a live tour. In the middle of 2014, Deen announced she would be creating her own network, the "Paula Deen Network."
