What does PC stand for?

PC stands for “personal computer.” A typical personal computer includes a monitor, keyboard, mouse and tower containing the motherboard, processor, power source and hard drive. The first personal computers were introduced in 1975.

The Lisa, introduced by Apple in January 1983, was the first personal computer to include a mouse and graphical user interface. Lisa paved the way for the Macintosh. Windows was first shipped in 1985 and, by 1992, had become the default operating system of new PCs. Apple commonly refers to Windows-based systems as “PCs” in contrast to “Macs” for its Macintosh computers, although a Mac is technically a personal computer.
