The penalties for a person selling crack depend on the number of previous offenses committed and the amount of crack that is being sold. The penalty begins at no less than five years and can extend through no more than life.

The term crack is short for crack cocaine, which is a form of cocaine that can be smoked. Higher penalties exist for the selling and possession of crack than of cocaine even though they are pharmacologically considered the same drug. Penalties for the sale of crack can also include the owing of a monetary amount, no more than $75 million.
