What do people in Nepal wear?

The different groups in Nepal have their own way of dressing; however, common across cultures are the Daura Suruwal Dhaka Topi, casual shirts worn by men. For women, the Kurta Salwar, Saries and various casual pants and T-shirts are favored. Those people living in the large cities throughout Nepal usually wear Western clothing.

When visiting Nepal, dressing modestly shows respect for the locals. This is especially true for Western women who should strive to dress modestly. Avoid bare shoulders and make sure that all dresses, skirts and shorts go below the knee. For men traveling to the country, avoid going out without a shirt and wear long shorts and T-shirts.
