According to a report by the Lumina Foundation, as of 2012, approximately 39.4 percent of working-aged Americans hold at least a two-year college degree. This figure represents a rise of 0.7 percent from 2011.

As of 2014, holders of college degrees in the United States are sharply divided in terms of race. For blacks, Latinos and Native Americans, the number of working-aged people who have at least a two-year college degree ranges from 19.8 percent to 27.6 percent. This contrasts sharply with the rates among whites and Asian-Americans, which are 43.9 percent and 59.4 percent, respectively. However, college enrollment for both Latino and black high-school graduates is on an upward trend.
