What percentage of the U.S. population identifies as Muslim?

As of 2010, about 0.9 percent of the population of the United States identifies as Muslim. Islam is the fourth largest faith in the country following Christianity, Judaism and Buddhism.

There are an estimated 2,770,000 Muslims in the United States. Demographically, 26 percent of American Muslims are of Arab descent, 25 percent are African-American, and 34 percent are South Asian. Some cities with high concentrations of Muslims include New York, New York; Dearborn, Michigan; Paterson, New Jersey; Los Angeles, California; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Some notable American Muslims include Muhammad Ali, Louis Farrakhan, Malcolm X, Janet Jackson and Alexander Russell Webb.
