How do you do percentages in math?

Percent means “for every 100†or “out of 100.†If 80 percent of the population owns a computer, this implies that 80 out of every 100 people have one. The symbol “%†means percent. Writing a percentage therefore means representing the number out of 100. For instance, finding what percent of 20 is 40: (40/20) * 100 = 200%
In frequent percentage cases, “of†is given to indicate “times.†If you need to find 20% of 1600, you first convert the percentage “20%†to its decimal form, which is 0.2. Then, since “20 percent of 1600†tells you to multiply the 0.2 and the 1600, you get: (0.2) (1600) = 320.
A percentage is a fraction of 100. For instance:
40% (40 in each 100) as a fraction is 40/100.
40% as a decimal is 0.4.
In calculating percentages, two values are provided, or at least enough information to figure them out. You are required to select a variable for the missing value, write an equation and solve for the variable. In real-life situations, people are often required to find a percentage of a quantity. In such cases, the percentage is first written as a fraction or decimal and then multiplied by the quantity. For instance:
50% of $50
50% as a fraction is 50/100 = 0.5
0.5 * $50 = $25
